Zee is one of my oldest nicknames. Ironically, the oldest one is actually Moon-Moon and my first name is Aaliyah. The nickname Zee, started when I was in Year 9 I think, & and of the boys found out that my middle name, or “Indian” name, was Zindagi. He thought it would be hilarious to run around calling me ZeenDaGhee with an Indian accent and full head bobble… needless to say, it stuck, spread & then was repeated so much, that it became tiring & became Zee 😂 Anyways… Zindagi is a word of *Persian* origin, which means "life". (wait, what?) I was about to say that it’s an Urdu word ( زندگی ) adapted & used in Hindi as well ( ज़िंदगी ) and means: life, living, existence. Whaddya know 😂 Aaliyah, is an Arabic word meaning “exalted” or “high-born.” In the Hebrew Bible, the word “aliyah” meant “rising” or “going up” and referred to the honour of being allowed to read from the Torah in synagogue, the Hebrew word “Aliyah” still literally means ascent or rise, but for generations it has also been used to mean “immigration to Israel.” I’ve also been known as another name and I was always told it meant friend, counsel, advisor, confidante. Today, I learnt that the name isn’t of the origin I believed, it is a variant from more Ancient Greek & Latin roots and those root words mean, alone/unique, monk/hermit and “advisor” from its Latin root meaning to advise/to warn). Also French: Madonna, wise. Greek: Alone. Advisor. Latin: Advise. Counsellor.
